Supporting Adult Mental and Behavioral Health in Rural New York

CHI partnered with the New York State Association for Rural Health (NYSARH) to develop and facilitate training supportive of older adults’ mental health through advocacy, community education, and behavioral health workforce development.

Strengthening Community Health Worker (CHW) Workforce Capacity to Serve Rural Communities

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are an essential workforce in rural communities where workforce shortages affect access and continuity of care. CHI is a nationally recognized CHW workforce development leader since 2001 and has served on the MA Department of Public Health’s Board of Certification of CHWs since 2012. CHI provides Board-approved CHW Core Competency training as well as specialized training, certification support, and technical assistance for organizations integrating CHWs into their workforce.

Rural Health Language Access and Equity

CHI provides translation services, interpretation services, and technical assistance utilizing in-person and virtual technology to extend health information and services for community members in rural areas whose first languages are not English and to strengthen communities’ language equity infrastructure and technology.

Community Health Assessments

CHI conducts qualitative research (e.g., focus groups, interviews) with residents in rural communities and contributes to rural Community Health Improvement Plans, including identifying the challenges of recruiting and retaining health professionals.

Telehealth and Technology for Rural Health Access

CHI was selected by MassHealth as part of the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) project to support systems transformation by developing and implementing a Telehealth education program for CHWs.

CHI’s Translation Recording Studio allows recorded translations of health education information and materials that can be easily accessed via digital links in rural communities.
