Successful Supervision with Community Health Workers
Successful Supervision with Community Health Workers recognizes that CHW Supervisors play a pivotal role in establishing a quality CHW workforce, yet all too often have not been equipped with the resources necessary to ensure their team members function most effectively in their roles. Drawing from the professional literature and the CHW Supervisor experience, the two-day Workshop employs a culturally responsive systems-thinking approach to challenges confronting CHW Supervisors. It aims to build the capacity of Supervisors to provide more responsive and informed supervision for the CHWs on their team. Workshop participants will learn about available resources and apply practical tools designed to improve supervisory practices.
This two-day workshop focuses on key topics areas identified and prioritized by CHW Supervisors and is informed by insights from subject matter experts in community health, education, and related fields.
Its curriculum is grounded in the ten core competencies for CHWs recognized by the Massachusetts Board of Certifications for Community Health Workers and complements the CHW core competency training required for voluntary CHW certification in Massachusetts. While the workshop is highly relevant to CHW supervisors in any location, it is also a key component of Massachusetts-wide efforts to ensure the availability of a well prepared, well integrated, and sustainable CHW workforce across the state.
Please note that Successful Supervision with Community Health Workers was designed and piloted with funding support from the MassHealth (Medicaid) DSRIP program as part of the Massachusetts Section 1115 Demonstration Waiver.
